The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the Councillor for Festivities, Dailos González, and the President of the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA), Abbas Moujir, inaugurated this Friday afternoon the Christmas Square, a space enclosed within the Plaza del Cristo where, until January 5th, live musical performances, food and drink stalls dedicated to this festivity and a multitude of activities for all ages, including a skating rink, can be enjoyed. Several members of the municipal corporation and representatives of the commercial sector also took part in the opening ceremony. A performance by the group Los Sabandeños brought the first day to a close.
The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, invited the public ‘to enjoy this leisure area, which in previous editions has demonstrated its ability to become a place of fun for the whole family, and one of the most popular places for Christmas in the municipality for its varied entertainment possibilities and its gastronomic offerings’.
The councillor for Festivities explained that during the Christmas festivities there will be musical performances on the stage installed inside the enclosure, with artists such as Laritza Bacallao, Chago Melián, Shaila Dúrcal, Fran Baraja, Iván Quintana or the groups Los Cantadores and Achamán, as well as hosting the big party to bid farewell to the year 2024 and welcome 2025.
In addition to the ice rink, says Dailos González, the Christmas Square will have DJ sessions, food truck food zones and a children’s area with bouncy castles and play areas, among other initiatives. There will also be a specific market from 2 to 4 January, with the participation of artisans, confectioners and different professionals from the island.
The only days that the Christmas Square will be closed to the public will be 25 December and 1 January, both public holidays. The opening and closing times will be available on the social media profiles of the Town Hall and the Plaza de la Navidad of La Laguna.
