The city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna will once again be the setting for a double event related to the world of photography, which will serve to showcase the origins and values of this territory, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Throughout the month of September, the 18th Exhibition of Old Photographs “Zenón el fotógrafo” and the 16th Photography Marathon “Antonio García Rueda” will take place.

Both events are promoted by the Casco Neighbourhood Association and are supported by the La Laguna City Council’s Department of Festivals and the Tenerife Island Council’s Department of Social Action and Citizen Participation.

The aim of the first event is to share with the public a collection of memories and moments from more than 30 years ago, covering different themes and offering a journey into the past of many emblematic streets in the historic quarter, highlighting the festivals and events that have marked and continue to mark the rhythm of this city.

Those interested can submit their photographs until 3 September at Foto Mundo Color (Calle La Carrera, number 8). The original images will be scanned free of charge, without having to leave them at the shop. The limit per participant will be four photographs. The final selection will be exhibited free of charge between 6 and 14 September, in front of the former Colegio Nava La Salle school, on Calle La Carrera.

The marathon is also a popular event in the municipality, whose purpose is to involve people with different levels of camera skills around a common theme that will be revealed at the time of registration.

In this case, three cash prizes of 200, 100 and 50 euros will be awarded to the top three finishers. Registrations can be made between 5 and 6 September (until 12 noon) by emailing avcacolalaguna@gmail.com. The compositions submitted will be on display to the public at the same location as the exhibition of old photographs on 13 September.
