Humanae Exhibition

As part of the events commemorating the 25th anniversary of La Laguna as a World Heritage Site, Casa Anchieta is hosting the exhibition Humanae by Brazilian artist Angélica Dass, an international artistic and social project that offers a profound reflection on human diversity. Through photographic portraits that make up an extensive ‘chromatic inventory’ of skin tones, the work breaks with racial stereotypes and traditional categories, celebrating the richness and complexity of humanity in all its diversity.

This contemporary dialogue finds a particularly meaningful space at Casa Anchieta. Father José de Anchieta, born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and a key figure in the cultural and spiritual history of Brazil, symbolises in his legacy the encounter between worlds, languages and traditions. His life and work reflect the ability to build bridges between different cultures, promoting mutual understanding and respect.

The Humanae exhibition engages with this legacy by inviting us to look at others with equality and empathy, recognising that our common identity is woven into diversity. In a global context in which coexistence between cultures is both a challenge and an opportunity, this exhibition reminds us that humanity is not defined by borders or categories, but by the infinite range of nuances that shape us.

With this initiative, Casa Anchieta becomes a space for reflection and encounter, where art, history and memory come together to celebrate multiculturalism and reaffirm La Laguna’s commitment to the values of inclusion, respect and intercultural dialogue.
