La Laguna once again becomes the epicentre of Christmas with a light show that enhances its historical legacy, while incorporating innovative, modern and efficient decorative elements. This year, the city celebrates its 25th Anniversary as a World Heritage Site, and does so with a Christmas lighting that combines tradition, modernity and a unique charm that attracts thousands of families to enjoy a stroll through the city.

‘A design that honours our traditions and heritage,’ said the mayor of Municipal Services, Fran Hernández, in charge of the staging of the light show with which the municipality shines this festive season. ‘With this lighting proposal we wanted every corner of the city to reflect the Christmas spirit without losing our historical essence, demonstrating that tradition and modernity can coexist in perfect harmony,’ he said.

The light show at the arch in Calle Obispo Rey Redondo, with daily shows at 18:15, 19:15, 20:15 and 21:15, takes advantage of the sunset to reach its maximum splendour, making it one of the most visited places. Twelve kilometres of garlands illuminate this infrastructure, which also presents a renewed design with four porticoes and new ornaments, consolidating itself as one of the most awaited elements by the citizens to capture this snapshot.

Among the great attractions, the RGB tunnel of the Cathedral has also become an immersive space that combines lights and colours in a welcoming environment, which has been enriched with the installation of figures of angels of different sizes, among other ornaments.

‘The truth is that the walk through the city is full of surprises,’ said the mayor, stressing that the ornamentation is not limited to the main streets of the historic centre. ‘This Christmas has been extended to the surrounding area, in an effort to make visible and benefit as many local shops and businesses as possible, which are experiencing one of the most important commercial campaigns of the year at this time of year’. The councillor added that ‘we want this Christmas decoration to be a driving force to boost our local economy. We know that the ornamental lighting transcends the visual, generating a significant impact on the commercial fabric. Families who come to enjoy the spectacle find a lively city, where bars, restaurants and shops offer experiences that complement the magic of the lights,’ he said.

On their tour of the city, visitors can contemplate Christmas trees of different sizes that invite them to capture this photograph as a souvenir. Among them, a 12-metre tree in Doctor Olivera, a 14-metre tree in La Verdellada and a 15-metre tree in Santo Domingo, and another 20-metre tree in the Plaza del Cristo. In addition, the Plaza del Adelantado has been transformed into a place of fantasy with illuminated houses, walking sticks, giant butterflies and elf figures, creating an endearing corner for young and old alike.

Other points to visit include the lighting design in the Deán Palahí alley, the dome of lights in La Milagrosa and a giant Christmas ball in the Junta Suprema. Merry Christmas’ messages on the busiest streets, arches of lights and light decorations with different designs reinforce the festive atmosphere in the road network.

One detail that characterises this year’s decoration is the relocation of some emblematic lighting elements that are already part of the tradition of La Laguna, in order to continue to surprise the public with new perspectives on the streets and squares. In the words of Fran Hernández, ‘La Laguna reaffirms itself as an essential destination for this season. With its mix of history and the welcoming Christmas spirit that permeates public spaces, the city and the municipality as a whole, invites you to enjoy this experience that delights the senses and touches the hearts of families’. ‘Without a doubt, the magic of Christmas takes on a special dimension in La Laguna,’ he concluded.
