As part of the activities marking the 25th anniversary of its declaration as a World Heritage City, La Laguna City Council has promoted a meeting between public officials responsible for heritage and cultural agents around the exhibition ‘Lagunear. Memory and Transformation’, an exhibition that offers an artistic reflection on the urban, social and symbolic evolution of the city. The initiative seeks to strengthen the links between art, public management and citizenship at a particularly significant moment for the city.

The institutional visit, held this morning at the LM Arte Colección museum, was guided by the exhibition curator and director of the centre, Eliseo G. Izquierdo, and was attended by the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the councillor for Cultural Heritage, Adolfo Cordobés.

They were joined by prominent representatives from the public sector linked to the conservation of the historical and cultural heritage of Tenerife and the Canary Islands, such as the rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco García, and the island’s director of Historical Heritage, Isabel de Esteban.

Also in attendance were Canarian MPs from the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Nira Fierro, Tamara Raya and Yaiza López, spokesperson for Culture and Universities, as well as technical staff from the Cabildo and the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the Canarian Government.

‘Lagunear. Memory and Transformation’ is not just an exhibition, but an invitation to rediscover the vital pulse of La Laguna through art, its corners, its voices and its silences. It is a meeting place that reinforces the shared commitment to the memory, culture and future of the only World Heritage city in the Canary Islands.

The exhibition, which will remain open until 4 December, brings together paintings, audiovisual works and sculptures created in La Laguna or linked to it, in a proposal that moves between evocation and criticism.

It takes us on a journey through works by historical figures in Canarian art, such as Óscar Domínguez, Manolo Millares, María Belén Morales, Pedro González, Pepe Abad, Arminda del Castillo and Elena Lecuona, in dialogue with contemporary artists such as Marisa Bajo, Martín y Sicilia, Juana Fortuny, Carmen Cólogan and Carlos Rivero, among others.

The selection includes unpublished and little-known pieces, reinforcing its innovative nature and its capacity to generate new interpretations.
