The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, has recently formalised a new collaboration agreement between the City Council of La Laguna and the Real Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País de Tenerife (RSEAPT), with the aim of promoting the project to renew the exhibition resources of the permanent collection of heritage elements of this entity, incorporating new units and improving their conservation and exhibition conditions.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez highlighted ”the valuable work of preservation and dissemination of the cultural heritage that the Real Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País de Tenerife has been carrying out for many years now, thanks to one of the most important documentary and photographic archives in the Canary Islands, as well as its magnificent library and complementary resources such as this permanent exhibition”.

For his part, the Councillor for Culture, Adrián del Castillo, added that ”this agreement reinforces our commitment to the promotion of the cultural heritage of La Laguna and with this institution, which holds an exceptional legacy that should be accessible to all. With this new agreement we take a further step to enhance the value of our history and promote knowledge of our past and present among the citizens”.

The City Council of La Laguna will provide 30,000 euros through a nominal grant, covering approximately 63% of the total cost of the project, estimated at 47,561.04 euros. The remaining amount will be financed by the RSEAPT, which will have no other external sponsorship or contributions for this initiative.

The purpose of the project is to review and study the bibliographic, archival, documentary and artistic collections of the entity, as well as to analyse their conservation conditions and the implementation of improvements. Also, the selection, review and preparation of heritage pieces for exhibition, together with the acquisition of new artistic elements; the extension, maintenance and adaptation of public access spaces to enhance the museum, historiographical and didactic value of the exhibitions; and, finally, the dissemination and enhancement of this important legacy to the public and the research community.

The Real Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País de Tenerife is an institution that arose with the aim of fostering the integral development of society, promoting progress in various disciplines and cultural fields. Its universal vocation reflects the Enlightenment ideal of promoting knowledge and progress in areas as varied as social sciences, experimental sciences, music and literature, thus contributing to the welfare and enrichment of the community.
