The Symposium ‘La Laguna World Heritage City, 25 years later’ recovers the spirit of the local Declaration on the rights of future generations and vindicates the role of the assets protected by Unesco as promoters of peace.
Throughout the weekend, the city will be offering various free activities to discover its history and heritage, such as the Tunnel of Time, dramatised routes and guided tours with opera.
In an institutional ceremony, the City Council recognises the promoters and guardians of this legacy on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the city’s inclusion on the Unesco list.
Institutional acts, salutes of honour and recognitions such as the commemorative stamp of the anniversary, join various cultural proposals in an extensive programme of events .
The mayor thanked Navarro “for her perseverance and leadership, which has been fundamental for La Laguna to celebrate the 25th anniversary of such an important milestone in our history”.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, was in charge of welcoming the public present during the inaugural session, highlighting “the quality and professional background of the people who make up this rich programme, with which a quarter of a century later we can reflect on what happened in this period, in the city and its surroundings”.
This initiative of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the City Council of La Laguna, with the participation of the company Burka Teatro, will offer a total of 10 free routes through the historic centre.
The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, received the crowd of children of this Peace Walk in the Plaza del Adelantado, named after its founder and political centre of this city since the beginning of the 16th century.
The Krijer family, a family of goldsmiths from La Laguna, has designed a unique work for this tribute, which combines the wind rose of the urban layout with the prestigious local baroque silverwork.
