The Group of Heritage Cities of Spain, to which San Cristóbal de La Laguna belongs, today presented the programme of ‘La Noche del Patrimonio, La Nit del Patrimoni, A Noite do Patrimonio’, which will take place simultaneously in 15 historic cities in the country and which is the best representation of the uniqueness of the monuments, art and cultural wealth of these territories.
The recently recovered building of A Casa das Máquinas in Santiago de Compostela has hosted the presentation of the event that closes the programme of the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Group of World Heritage Cities, next Saturday 14 September.
The event was attended by the Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, who stressed that “this Heritage Night will be especially important for our citizens, as it coincides with such an emblematic date as the big day of the Fiestas del Cristo”. “The city will combine heritage, tradition, culture, entertainment and leisure in a day to remember in which people of all ages will be able to participate,” he said.
For her part, the president of the Group, Goretti Sanmartín, thanked the involvement of the mayors and all the municipal teams of the 15 cities “to offer citizens and visitors a cultural programme of the highest level, which is the best example of how the sum of history, languages, talent, creativity and innovation makes our cities unique places to live, enjoy and visit”.
Heritage Night will be structured in three sections, common to all 15 cities, which will be called Vive Patrimonio (cultural offer), Abierto Patrimonio (open doors of monuments and emblematic spaces) and Escena Patrimonio (Festival and platform for the creation of dance in heritage environments).
In the case of La Laguna, and within the Heritage Scene section, Kukai Dantza together with the Canarian musical genius of Rogelio Botanz and local folklore groups will bring the traditions of the Basque Country and the Canary Islands to a context of contemporary art in a tour of the city as far as the Plaza de Santo Domingo.
